With the addition of new people and new projects in the lab comes the demand for more hoverflies and a need to scale up our rearing methods to enable multiple batches of larvae to be reared simultaneously. Luckily our winter caught gravid females have laid an abundance of eggs this week, with a total of 5 batches laid in just 3 days. Surprisingly the limiting factor seems to be the amount of fresh rabbit poo we can easily source. So now its a race to see which batch of eggs hatch first and get their place in the poo!!!
