By Richard Leibbrandt - I've been working in the hoverfly vision group part-time for a few months now, developing the next release of the FlyFly software. One of the new features will be that we will finally be able to run the generalized "Starfield" stimulus, which is a background of circles in 3D space that move together, independently of a target that is also moving through 3D space. This stimulus will help us to investigate neural responses to targets in the presence of background clutter. Here is what it would look like (the target colour has been changed from black to red for the sake of this movie):
