Update - A grand total of 90 hoverflies emerged 22 -25 days after the eggs were laid So overall rearing hoverflies from eggs laid in the lab has been a huge success!!! We have since had more eggs laid and will be rearing these hoverflies too. |
On Monday one of the female hoverflies we
collected from Wittunga a few weeks ago, laid eggs.
Today, less than 48hrs later, these eggs
have started hatching!!!!
We are going to trial two different larval mediums,
soaked oats and rabbit poo. Hopefully our larvae
will grow well in one, or even both, and in a few
weeks start migrating into the wood shavings to
pupate.
