As usual at the start of the year I am too busy with teaching and grant writing to enjoy our research and welcome new lab members properly. Despite only being in the lab for a month, I do not know how we survived without the amazing Sarah Nicholas. She does everything! Not only is she great with electrophysiology, she can also build set-ups, keep budgets and manage a lab. We will never let her go.
I am applying for ARC funding together with Bruno van Swinderen at QBI, who does really cool research on attention in fruitflies. Hopefully ARC will like our grant as much as I do, and we will start working together more closely.
Teaching has started in earnest, and I am currently teaching the anatomy of the GIT (gastrointestinal tract) to medical students. We have a wonderful cohort this year, so it is a true pleasure.
